We are Here to Write is our writers’ group for global majority people. With a focus on writing for stage, each session is designed to develop your writing practice and demystify the process of being a writer. The group is a supportive community, in place to gently keep you on track with your writing goals. The programme includes group writing sessions, guest workshops from members of the Beyond Face team and specialised talks on topics such as demystifying arts funding or working with a dramaturg. There are also opportunities to share your writing with the group for feedback, working towards submitting material to be performed at the We are Here to Write scratch, an evening where group members’ work is brought to life by professional actors in a rehearsed reading at a South West-based theatre.

how it works

  • The sessions are held online on Wednesdays 6:30-8:30pm fortnightly.

  • They are led by Corinne, Artist Development Producer & Facilitator with some guest sessions led by the Beyond Face team or additional artists.

  • Every session begins with each person sharing a MOJ (Moment of Joy) from the last week, a light way to ease us into each session.

  • The sessions are drop-in so there is no pressure to attend every session.

  • Some sessions are dedicated to offering focused time to work independently on your writing.

  • Each session will have a different focus which will be shared in advance, allowing you to prepare accordingly.

  • Being part of the group allows for opportunities to have your work performed script-in-hand by professional actors to support your writing’s development.
