Our Vision is to lead the South West into becoming a recognised region that amplifies and celebrates Global Majority people in the arts and cultural sector.
Our mission is to be at the forefront of providing opportunities for artists of the Global Majority to live, work and thrive in the South West theatre sector. We aim to reframe the narrative around what is perceived as quality and to bring focus to the region.
Beyond Face is a South-West based theatre company founded in 2015 by Alix Harris.
In its early years the company was supported by the Barbican Theatre Plymouth, and Plymouth Culture. Between 2016-17 we were an associate company for Tamasha Theatre Company. We later became resident company between 2019-2020 for Theatre Royal Plymouth.
From 2021 Beyond Face rebranded and became a regional based company responding to the demands of engagement with communities across the region as well as developed partnerships with other South West organsiations.
In 2023 Beyond Face joined the Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation. In 2024 we became an Associate company at Bristol Old Vic.

our story
We exist to create shows that explore current themes and issues as well as playing with different forms.
Beyond Face exists to work with local global majority artists across the region providing a number of opportunities for writers and theatre makers to develop their craft and share their work with live audiences.
Our young people‘s offers provide opportunity for young people to develop skills to help them to build their own creative work and sense of community.
Our Regional Voices programme, enables us to connect with local people who currently have little to no engagement or experience with the theatre industry, investigating how people who don't work in the arts sector can engage with arts as a creative outlet.
Our productions focus on stories that link the South West of England to the rest of the world.
The shows develop and prioritise the work of South West Global Majority writers and creatives who are based in the South West or have a relationship with the region.
why we exist
We are a travelling company that exists without a core building. Alternatively, we work in collaboration with several venues across the region to host our programmed activities and performances. This way Beyond Face is able to bring our expertise and creative space directly to you.
We have an office based in Bristol Knowle West Media Centre, and have a base in Plymouth.
