Our vision is to lead the South West into becoming a recognised region that amplifies and celebrates Global Majority people in the arts and cultural sector.

Our Story

Beyond Face was founded in 2015 by Artistic Director & CEO Alix Harris in Plymouth. The company was formed to address the lack of representation of Global Majority people participating in theatre in the city.

There was a common misconception that a county such as Devon didn’t have people who wanted to engage in the arts. Beyond Face was created to challenge that by raising the profile and visibility of Global Majority people, and providing more opportunities for engagement and breaking down barriers. 

The company has been expanding its work for over a decade and has worked nationally and internationally with the ambition to amplify the region as a place where Global Majority people are making and engaging in high quality artistic work. Beyond Face have produced 10 new writing productions and in 2021 rebranded as a South West based organisation in order to connect with more artists and audiences across the region. In 2023 Beyond Face joined the Arts Council’s National Portfolio, which gave stability to deepen our offerings.
