2024 - why we’re grateful for January

When it came to figuring out what message we wanted to begin the New Year blog with there were shouts of “something happy” across our zoom call.

Whilst relatively vague, I understood why our team wanted to be intentionally joyful in our blog. You see, the lead up to the winter break feels giddy with anticipation for the much longed for rest that happens for the majority of the nation. High-streets and houses are lit up with twinkling lights, people are making plans to spend time relaxing in their own company or in that of loved ones and generally people just seem to be a bit nicer - we all knows it’s true! So yes, the switch to January when the breeze feels a bit sharper, the lights have come down (although I’m happy to see them go) and you’re wondering how much longer is appropriate to wish people Happy New Year, can be a little rough.

However, we don’t want to as individuals and a company get into the habit of wishing months and days away just because we love picnic weather more. So firstly, we are attempting to not start the year at 100mph, rather we’re gathering our to-do lists and gently ticking them off in order to ease ourselves into 2024 and maintain a steady rhythm that is good for our wellbeing. We’re grateful for the month of January because we are truly feeling refreshed after a prolonged break which serves as a reminder to ensure that these longer periods of rest are not breaks that are just left till the end of the year or a season. We are also heading away for some quality time as a team this month, where we will spend time focusing on wellbeing and care, connecting as a team and reflecting on the Beyond Face’s vision and mission.

Perhaps you can also use this month to re-define what your set “rhythm” will be and create time with friends to discuss how to better focus on your wellbeing and personal or group visions for the year.
